An affidavit of support in Dubai is a sworn, signed statement in which a sponsor declares they will financially support another person, usually a visitor or family member. It is notarised by a notary in the UAE. Filipino sponsors inviting relatives use a separate form, the Affidavit of Support and Guarantee (ASG), which is signed in person at the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai.

How to Get a General Affidavit of Support in Dubai

Because the receiving authority decides what it accepts, start by asking it for its wording and attachments. Then the process usually runs as follows.

1Confirm what the receiving authority needs. Ask which wording, attachments and language it requires, and whether it needs attestation.
2Draft the affidavit. It normally states the sponsor’s full name, nationality and Emirates ID or passport details, the beneficiary’s name and relationship, the purpose, and the sponsor’s declaration of support.
3Have it notarised. The sponsor signs before a notary with original ID and any supporting documents. We can assist with this step, including through e-notary or mobile notary where suitable for your document.
4Translate if required. If the receiving authority needs Arabic, use a legal translator licensed by the UAE Ministry of Justice.
5Attest if required. Where the document will be used outside the UAE, or the receiving party asks for it, it can be attested through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
✓Done Submit the notarised (and, where needed, translated and attested) affidavit to the requesting authority.

Typical supporting documents are the sponsor’s Emirates ID and passport, the beneficiary’s passport, proof of relationship where relevant, and proof of income such as a salary certificate or bank statements. The exact list depends on the receiving authority.

Documents the consulate lists

💼 Proof of income

Employment contract verified by POLO (a MOHRE contract for private-sector employees), payslips for the past six months, an updated stamped salary certificate, and stamped bank statements for six months. Investor or partner visa holders have a separate document list on the consulate page.

🏠 Proof of accommodation

A tenancy contract from the municipality in the sponsor’s name, or, if it is not in the sponsor’s name, a hotel booking stamped by the hotel or travel agency showing the visitor’s length of stay and flight.

👨‍👩‍👧 Proof of relationship

PSA-issued Report of Birth of children and Report of Marriage where applicable, plus the visitor’s PSA/NSO birth certificate or marriage contract as applicable.

🛂 Passports and visa

A copy of the visitor’s valid passport, and a copy of the sponsor’s valid passport and residence visa. The consulate may ask for other documents.

ASG steps at a glance

1Register and book an appointment in the consulate’s ASG online pre-assessment system.
2Prepare the income, accommodation and relationship documents above, with legal English translations of any Arabic documents.
3Attend the appointment and sign in person before consulate officials. The consulate accepts cash payment in dirhams only.
✓Done Collect the notarised ASG on the release date shown on your receipt.

The ASG is signed at the consulate itself, so we do not issue it. What we can help with is the surrounding paperwork that is notarised in the UAE, such as a sponsorship declaration for a different authority.

How Long Is an Affidavit of Support Valid?

The consulate’s ASG page does not state a validity period, and we have not found an official UAE source that sets one for a general affidavit. The receiving authority decides how recent a document must be, so ask it before you start and avoid relying on figures quoted on unofficial sites.

Why Applications Get Held Up

These are points the consulate itself stresses on its official pages. We list them as checks rather than as a record of our own cases.

  • The sponsor holds a visa category that cannot sponsor, such as Household Service Worker.
  • The sponsor’s tenancy contract is not in their own name and no stamped hotel booking is provided.
  • Arabic documents are submitted without a legal English translation.
  • Proof of income does not match the threshold for the sponsor’s household size.
  • The consulate states that spurious or tampered documents may be seized and the holder prosecuted.

How We Help

Important notes

  • Check the official pages linked above for current requirements before you apply.

Affidavit of Support Dubai: Frequently Asked Questions

What is an affidavit of support in Dubai?

It is a sworn statement in which a sponsor declares they will financially support another person, usually for a visit or similar purpose. The document is notarised in the UAE. Filipino sponsors inviting relatives use a different document, the Affidavit of Support and Guarantee, signed at the Philippine Consulate General Dubai.

What is the income requirement for the ASG at the Philippine Consulate in Dubai?

The consulate lists AED 10,000 monthly for a single sponsor, AED 14,000 for a family of two, AED 16,000 for a family of three and AED 18,000 for a family of four. The consulate says these thresholds are reviewed, so check its ASG page before applying.

Who is exempt from the Affidavit of Support and Guarantee?

The Philippine Consulate General Dubai states that senior citizens aged 60 and above and minors aged 17 and below are exempt from securing an ASG. It also states that certain visa categories, such as Household Service Workers, are not allowed to sponsor.

How much does an affidavit of support cost in Dubai?

The official fee at the Philippine Consulate Dubai is AED 100 for an affidavit or certification, and MOFA charges AED 150 for attesting an individual affairs document. A general affidavit also involves notarisation and service fees, which vary by case, so request a quote from us directly.

Do I need MOFA attestation for an affidavit of support?

Only if the receiving party asks for it, or the document will be used outside the UAE. MOFA states a normal attestation takes three working days and an express one takes one working day, and the individual affairs fee is AED 150. Confirm the requirement with the receiving authority first.

Can I sign the ASG online or through a notary?

No. The Philippine Consulate General Dubai states that applicants must personally sign in front of consulate officials, and applications are by appointment through its pre-assessment system. A UAE notary can help with other documents, but it does not replace the consulate’s ASG signing.

Conclusion

An affidavit of support in Dubai is either a general notarised statement or, for Filipino sponsors, the consulate’s ASG, and the two follow different routes. Before you request an affidavit of support Dubai authorities will accept, decide which one you need, check the receiving authority’s wording, and verify fees and thresholds on the official pages. The next step is to message us with the document’s purpose, and we will confirm how the notarisation part can be handled.
